Full-Time Maintenance Supervisor

Position Overview:
Under the direct supervision of the Township Supervisor, the Maintenance Supervisor provides general and skilled labor in support of a wide range of maintenance and repair projects for public land, parks/playground, township facilities maintenance, motor equipment operations and maintenance, snow plowing and removal and other related duties as assigned by the Township Office and Board.
Works with Township staff to achieve established programs, processes, and goals.
This position reports to the Highland Township Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions:
• Assist all Township Divisions with street, fleet, parks, sanitation and water maintenance, or cleanup activities as assigned.
• Brush and Limb Removal
• Manual Labor-Mowing, Trimming, Raking, Shoveling, Litter
• Skilled Labor-operating heavy equipment such as trucks for snow plowing and/or backhoe, plus, electrical, mechanical and plumbing work.
• Cold Patching
• Street Sweeping
• Grade, gravel, mow etc. shoulders of streets
• Respond to after hour and/or weekend emergencies when servicing in an on-call capacity.
• Perform routine building maintenance for public structures within and owned by the Township. May be expected to work with contractors on repairs and projects when appropriate.
• Adhere to all relevant safety guidelines and regulations (such as OSHA) while performing the duties of the job as well as all Township personnel policies.
• Assist in establishing Maintenance Policies and Procedures for all Township properties.
• Management Skills
• Any other project assigned by the Township Supervisor.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
• Basic problem-solving skills with good communication and listening skills.
• Safe work practices.
• Basic repair tools and procedures
• Project scheduling and management
Ability to:
• Review and verify the accuracy of data.
• Ability to work independently.
• Provide exceptional customer service to coworkers, and the public.
• Effectively communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and those contacted in the course of work.
Education & Experience:
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior work experience in performing the above-described work is highly desirable.
Additional Requirements:
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, CDL desired but not required.

The position may perform a variety of duties requiring strenuous physical effort and exposure to uncomfortable working conditions. The employee is required to twist, reach, bend, push, pull, sweep, shovel, and lift. Lifting requirements include lifting various sized and shaped material from waist to chest height. Some floor to chest and overhead lifting required. Heavy lifting (50 – 150 lbs.). Examples of job assignments include mowing, trimming, painting, litter pick-up, grounds keeping, tree pruning, brush removal, pavement repair, snow shoveling and equipment maintenance. Many of the jobs are outside in poor weather conditions and will require the use of power tools.

Election Worker
In order to successfully run our elections, Highland hires a staff of paid workers to work at the polls. Precinct inspectors are people who are paid to assist voters at the polls on Election Day. A precinct inspector must be a registered voter of the State. They cannot be a challenger, candidate, member of a candidate's immediate family, or a member of the local Board of Canvassers.
